Experts back Android in the battle for tablet supremacy
Posted on January 28th, 2011 No comments
Experts have predicted that 2011 could be the year of the Android tablet, as the market braces itself for a deluge of incoming devices.
Asus, Toshiba, LG, Samsung and Motorola are all developing Android based tablets in a concerted effort to smash the iPad’s dominance in the field.
Apple COO, Tim Cook adopted a “points-on-the-board” stance when countering these predictions;
“[Current Android tablets] are “scaled-up smartphones” – that’s a bizarre product in our view.” He said. “In terms of next generation; there’s nothing shipping yet, so I don’t know. Today they’re vapour; however we are not sitting still. We have a huge first mover advantage.”
Apple’s “first mover advantage” cannot be underestimated; 7.33 million iPad devices were sold in the final quarter of 2010 alone. But this does not dent the speculation that something big may be brewing elsewhere in the market.

RIM’s Playbook aimed at the business market
Posted on January 27th, 2011 No comments
The first reviews of RIM’s new PlayBook tablet indicate that is is being aimed squarely at the business sector.Just like RIM’s acclaimed BlackBerry smartphones, it appears the PlayBook tablet could become an ever-present fixture in the hands of businessmen in 2011.
Reliability was always key to the success of the BlackBerry, and that theme has been carried over to the Playbook. Even the early models of the device were fast, responsive and capable of carrying out even the most processor-frying commands with ease.
BlackBerrys and Playbooks can also sync together to share files or to transfer emails into a larger format for scrutinizing and editing. BlackBerry apps, however, will not work on the tablet device.

A fresh peek at the Nokia MeeGo tablet
Posted on January 25th, 2011 No commentsToday’s leaked image of Nokia’s long awaited MeeGo tablet has sent the internet rumour-mongers into overdrive once again.
Details for the device have been sketchy since it was announced last year and, despite the fact that developers have been busying themselves making software for the tablet since last October, we are still no closer to a confirmed release date.
The picture – apparently showing a tablet device using the Nokia MeeGo platform – pretty much confirms that the device will be a landscape orientated tablet. This was fairly likely all along, but it is the size of the Nokia logo that has fuelled further speculation.

Posted on October 19th, 2010 13 commentsAn e-book reader, more commonly called eReader, is an electronic device that is designed primarily for the purpose of reading digital books and periodicals and uses e-ink technology to display content to its readers. Simply put, it’s a portable device that allows you to upload numerous e-books in one gadget so you can basically stash a dozen or so of your favorite reads in one slim and handy gadget.
eReaders are perfect for people who love to read; but since an eReader has several other features, it’s best to focus on these to find out which features are appropriate for your needs before you head out and buy yourself the first one you like.

There’s an app for that – How the tablet computer is changing the way we work.
Posted on October 18th, 2010 No commentsA tablet computer, or what other people refer to as ‘Slate PC’, is a portable personal computer that offers touch based operation via the finger or a supplied stylus. This basically means that there are no potentially cumbersome keyboards or mice to deal with and plays into Steve Jobs vision of a future without buttons.
Since tablet computers are very handy, they are ideal for people who are always on the go. With a tablet, you can easily record everything with a small device that functions as something in between a laptop and a smartphone. With the portability of both and internet access where ever you are.
