Acer announce UK release date for Android tablet

Acer have announced a UK release date for the company’s first Android running tablet, the Iconia Tab A500.The A500 will be available from Friday 8th April, the same launch day as the Windows based W500.
The new tablet will be a 10.1-inch affair and will run Google’s Android Honeycomb operating system. The company also showed samples of a 7-inch Android tablet, the A100, the release of which is expected at the end of April.

Adobe Flash 10.2 for Android devices

Adobe are set to unleash version 10.2 of their Flash player for Android smartphone and tablet devices.The upgraded Flash will be supported by Android 2.2 – Froyo – and 2.3 – Gingerbread – smartphones, as well as Android Honeycomb running tablets.
Tablet’s running the Honeycomb version of Android will have to perform a slight upgrade however, as Flash 10.2 will require Android v.3.0.1 in order to run.

Asus Eee Pad gets a UK release date

Asus have announced UK launch dates for a raft of new tablets, including the Eee Slider and Eee Memo.The announcement, made ahead of the CeBIT event in Hannover, revealed that the 12.1-inch Eee Slate would be first to drop, landing in the UK in early April. The 10.1-inch Slider and Transformer tablets will follow close behind in mid April.
So it will be left to the dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon packing, 7-inch Eee Memo tab to bring up the rear when it arrives in the third quarter of 2011.

Asustek expect quiet first quarter

Taiwanese PC company, Asustek have announced that they expect slow sales in the opening quarter of 2011, after posting a sales decrease of 29% in Q4 of 2010.Asustek blamed the 29% fall – a decrease that was actually less than the one forecasted – on a “big slowdown in netbook growth”.

ViewSonic launches the ViewPad tablet with dual-boot capability

Visual-technology company, ViewSonic has weighed in with a new tablet device, the 10 inch View Pad 10Pro, which will be able to dual-boot both Windows 7 and Android 2.2.The ViewPad will be released alongside the V350 dual-SIM smartphone, which will allow users to operate different accounts and phone numbers for personal and business usage.

BBC iPlayer app confirmed for Android tablets

Following on from the BBC’s confirmation that the iPlayer app will be available on the iPad; the iconic broadcasting company have announced that the app will be available on Android devices also.Yesterday, the BBC announced that the iPlayer app would be available on iPad tablets from February 10th onwards, eventually hitting the US in June.

Pioneer announce Windows 7 supporting Dreambook ePad

London based computing firm, Premier have announced their new tablet; the Windows 7 running ePad F10.Pioneer – not to be confused with the Japanese television manufacturers of the same name – have chosen to launch the device with Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system although the device is rumoured to have a dual boot feature, allowing it to run Android also.
The 10.1 inch device will have a pixel resolution of 1024 x 600, as well as a 1.3 mega pixel camera, SD card reader and 8 hours of continuous battery usage.

Huawei to showcase Ideos S7 tablet at the Mobile World Congress, along with a new smartphone

Chinese tech company, Huawei are preparing to launch their Ideos S7 tablet at this week’s Mobile World Congress event, alongside the Ideos X3; a new smartphone.
Both devices will run Google’s Android OS, although the company have not yet specified which versions of the operating system will feature on each device. Some tech bloggers are reporting that the S7 will run the new Google Honeycomb OS, although others are less optimistic. It is expected that the X3 will run Android 2.2 – also known as Froyo.

Android e-book reader launched

Educational tech company, Brainchild have launched the Kineo – an Android tablet marketed specifically as an e-reader.
The Kineo features an 800MHz, dual core processor, 256MB of RAM and 2GB of storage, as well as WiFi connectivity, a SD card slot and an HDMI output for streaming data through HD television screens. -
Huawei release new Android tablet

Telecoms company, Huawei have released their new tablet, the Android based S7.
The S7 boasts an attractive design at an affordable price; it is also fitted with a handy little stand for desk use.
The device is on the smaller end of the tablet scale, measuring 209 x 108 x 15.5mm. Its 7 inch screen has an 800 x 400 pixel resolution, making the device a scaled-up version of a high-end Android smartphone.
