    The company have made no noises regarding which products will be running the OS, only hinting that MeeGo tablets will appear in Q2.

    Acer have announced that they will be launching a 3D monitor – the Acer GN245HQ – in early February.

    AMD have announced plans to further increase the battery life of devices powered by their chips by releasing an even lower power processor.

    AMD’s Fusion initiative has already been lauded for its restraint in the power-guzzling stakes. Now it seems that the 9W Ontario Fusion chip has been streamlined even further by AMD’s engineering teams, who have managed to squeeze the modified chip into a 5W power capacity.

    Acer claims that recent reports that they are to “phase out” netbook production in favour of tablet devices, are down to a translation error.

    Comments made by Lu Bing-hsian, Taiwan area sales manager for Acer, have been taken out of context according to the PC giant; Acer will continue to be active in both markets.

    Acer sought to clarify their position with a press release, stating that “as PCs are no longer used to create content but are more and more becoming consumption tools, new devices and new form factors are appearing .This means that the range of devices available to users is getting wider and tablets are just another piece of the mosaic.” Read the rest of this entry »

    New sales figures show that Acer’s PCs shipped 2.1 million units in the U.S during the fourth quarter of 2010.

    The study, carried out by IT research and advisory firm, Gartner, identified this as representing a 11% share of the market, a marked reduction from the 15% share enjoyed by Acer in the same period of 2009. Apple are now only 1.4% behind Acer in the race for PC dominance.

    The Brazo is the product of AMD’s recently developed, Fusion strategy and is a low-power platform aimed at smaller notebooks. It will be powered by AMD’s C-50 accelerated processing unit (APU) with its dual-core 1 GHz central processor.
