Seagate releases Goflex Slim, a tiny external hard drive

Irish/U.S. storage manufacturers, Seagate have launched the Goflex Slim, an external hard drive of miniscule proportions.The Goflex Slim measures a tiny 2.5 inches and is only 9mm thick – or, as the manufacturers say, “thinner than a pencil” – making it the ideal storage option for an ultra-portable laptop or netbook.

Dell’s 10-inch Windows 7 tablet delayed until autumn

Dell have announced that their 10-inch, Windows 7 running tablet device will not be released until autumn.The device – codenamed Rosemount – was originally pencilled in for a May/June release according to the roadmap leaked by Dell in February; apparently this is no longer the case.
This latest information regarding Rosemount comes from a ‘source close to Dell’ who leaked the information to Forbes. The source also disclosed that the tablet would be aimed at enterprise customers when it is finally released.

Sony plan release of Android Honeycomb tablet

Sony have announced plans to join the fray with an Android 3.0 tablet of their own.The tablet – running Google’s tablet optimised OS – is currently unnamed but is expected be released by the end of the year.
The device is expected to use a 9.4 inch touchscreen display and is rumoured to be a gaming orientated device, able to play games from Sony’s PlayStation 1 console, released way back in 1994.

HP gives app developers access to webOS 3.0

HP have provided developers with a development kit for their new operating system – webOS 3.0.The OS will not feature on a tablet until the new TouchPad device is released in the summer, but HP hope that by giving developers a head start they can provide TouchPad users with a range of useful and unique applications.

Asus Eee Pad Transformer undercuts iPad 2 on price

Asus will release their first Android Honeycomb tablet in the UK on April 6th, a fortnight behind the iPad 2.Presales have already begun for the Asus Eee Pad Transformer, which costs £380; £19 less than Apple’s latest tablet.

RIM’s research spending exposed

anadian firm, RIM spent $1.35 billion on research and development in 2011 alone, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.These figures equate to a tripling of research and development expenditure by RIM since 2008. In that same three-year period, sales of RIM’s BlackBerry units did rise, although this has been blamed upon a general increase in interest across the smartphone market.
In fact, BlackBerry’s smartphone market share dropped 3.4% in 2010, from 19.7% to 16.3%; a reflection of the high-levels of choice now offered to smartphone consumers.

Intel launch new and improved SSD series

Intel have launched the SSD 320, a series of third-generation solid-state drives that the company say are more reliable and provide greater storage capabilities than their predecessors.The 320 series replaces Intel’s X25-M PC drive and is based upon a 25-nanometer flash memory process developed by IM technologies, a joint operation between Intel and Micron Technologies.

Lenovo announce plans for LePad follow-up

Lenovo have announced that they plan to follow up their new LePad tablet with the LePad 2 by October 2011. The LePad has not even been released in the UK yet.The company have described the follow up as a lighter and thinner second generation version of the LePad.

Android Honeycomb apps in short supply as Motorola Xoom prepares for launch

Native apps for Google’s Android Honeycomb are still scarce as one of Honeycomb’s big hitters – the Motorola Xoom – prepares for a UK launch.Tech blogger, Justin Williams has identified just 20 applications specifically and exclusively designed for Honeycomb tablets available on the Android Marketplace, with the remainder being simply “upconverted” Android v2.0 apps.

AMD prepare HD 6790 graphics card for release

Chip manufacturers, AMD are preparing to launch their new graphics card – the HD 6790 – on April 5th.The 6790 was originally scheduled for release on March 31st, but AMD postponed the launch until April 5th.
