Booq laptop bags continue to lead from the front

Booq has released a new product for its line of computer protection – the Viper Rush.

The laptop bags are made from high-density molded foam which encases and protects the device, while integrated bumpers elevate the notebook and providing ventilation. The case is designed to be opened approximately 120 degrees, enabling users to work without having to remove it from the safety of the bag. Interior non-scratch neoprene pockets and compartments can be used for storing cables, phones, keys, pens, power adapters, or other accessories.

Viper Rush also includes a nylon shoulder strap and an internal divider which can be folded down to maximize space. The company’s Terralinq service pairs the accessory with a metal badge and serial number to assist with recovering missing bags. The case comes in both a medium size, which Macs up to 15 inches, and a large variant that holds 17-inch laptops.

Autumn/Winter laptop bags hit the tech fashion market

Booq has announced a new line of laptop bags and cases for professionals and students called the Boa flow, nerve, and squeeze. The flow M/XL is a full feature laptop bag that has an interior optimized for laptop accessories, side pockets for your phone, and breathable back padding. The bag isn’t cheap at £110. The Boa nerve S/L is a large messenger bag that has a removable laptop sleeve and is priced at £70 or £80.

The nerve S/L also has a durable, water resistant rubberized bottom and a large front pocket with a built in organizer. The Boa squeeze is an everyday backpack priced at £59.99 with a basic design for protecting a laptop. The back of the bag has airmesh padding for comfort and the lining is soft to prevent scratches.

Laptop bags create a stir at New York Fashion Week

As editors, journalists and fashionistas from around the world gather in the Big Apple to view fashion genius, the rest of us trudge around with our coffee-and-ink-stained laptop bags displaying battle-scars from commuter wars.

But where there’s fashion, there’s innovation – and that means funkier laptop bags for all!

NY Fashion Week declares that it’s time to update your style, and the word on the street is that sleek and sexy are in, as well as urban chic. The Pike messenger bag from Alchemy Goods was one of the most popular laptop bags at the festival; made from 67 percent recycled parts, including inner tubes, bicycle valves, and seat belts, the Pike looks manly and even smells like a bloke.

It features 100 percent waterproof exterior, velcro fastenings, a separate pocket for your laptop, and plenty of other nifty features – all for a fashion-happy £70.

Laptop bags beginning to outweigh the laptop inside them

As technology enhances day by day, the size and weight of laptops is shrinking at the same scale.

Some laptops weigh in at just about 400 to 500 grams – the reason being down to newer and smaller components, including CPUs that require less power to cool, solid state disks and more compact batteries – and incredibly this means that the machines themselves are, in some cases, lighter than the laptop bags they are carried in.

Sony laptops have been at the forefront of this downsizing, with the Sony Vaio VGN-UX1XN netbook that comes with an Intel Core Solo processor and has a clock speed of 1,333 MHz. It has a small display screen that is just 4.5 inches in size.

Samsung’s NC10 is another featherweight laptop that weighs just over 550 grams. It comes with an Intel Atom N270, has an internal RAM capacity of 1,024 MB, and possesses a 160GB hard drive.

Laptop owners buying more laptop accessories

With the sales of notebook computers and laptops on the rise, the demand for ‘notebook and laptop essentials such as laptop bags, stands, mouse, has grown considerably.

Mouse-pointing devices are also seeing higher sales especially among users who prefer the feel of a mouse than a track pad.

This is followed closely by laptop bags, webcams and headsets.

Notebook stands are also seen to grow as more people buy notebook computers over desktops.

Citing an internal market study, Logitech Philippines Sales Manager, Aileen Chua said that 70 per cent of users surveyed have a laptop stand in their offices.

About 60 per cent of the 300 respondents use their notebooks between two and seven hours a day.
Also, all of the respondents have notebook stands, which are used to elevate laptop screens as well as for ergonomics.

“Some people use a laptop stand for comfort more than just cooling. It is more of a necessity to have a stand,” Chua said.

Other than stands, Chua said external speakers and USB hubs are also seeing strong sales from laptop owners.
