Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 are thinnest yet
Posted on March 23rd, 2011 No commentsWith side profiles of just 8.6mm each, Samsung’s new tablet offerings are the thinnest tablets yet.
The new devices – thinner than most smartphones – signify a change in direction for tablet manufacturers hoping to depose Apple’s iPad from the top of the tree.
Slim is apparently the way forward; the Apple iPad itself had one third of its original width shaved off for its latest incarnation, the iPad 2, dropping it to a slimline 8.8mm.
However, Samsung have remained focused and delivered two devices that not only kill in the looks department, but also in the specs department; both devices feature 1.GHz dual core processors and front and rear facing cameras, as well as surround sound stereo speakers.
Samsung have also two devices, ensuring that both prices hover around that of the iPad 2. The Korean company will be hoping that by not pricing themselves out of the market they will be able to compete with tablet-giants, Apple on an even playing field.
At this stage, the quality of these devices looks strong, but Samsung have suffered previous misfires with less than encouraging sales of the original Galaxy Tab. The company will be hoping for a better shot at the market this time around. No release dates are currently available for either model.
