Splashtop Operating system now available for all Windows based PCs

Californian software company, Splashtop have announced a wide release for their operating system, Splashtop OS. The platform should theoretically run on any Windows based PC.Previously compatible with just a few Windows notebooks and netbooks, the OS is now considered stable enough for a Windows-PC-wide release, placing it in direct competition with Google’s lauded Chrome OS.
Designed specifically for web browsing, the system opens on a browser option screen with a search bar; this streamlined approach to web browsing makes the OS more of a companion to Windows rather than a direct replacement.
Splashtop boots far quicker than Windows and is therefore a viable option for fast internet access.
However, tech bloggers who have test driven Splashtop on tablet devices have returned an uncertain verdict on the OS, concluding that Splashtop is more for notebook and netbook users than those with tablet devices.
“Unfortunately, while Splashtop did work on [my Fujitsu T900] tablet, it did not work perfectly,” wrote Mark Sumimoto on GottaBeMobile.com. “Pen and touch via the Wacom dual digitizer did not work. I did not expect it to have the right drivers, so this was not a surprise. Nevertheless, without such support, Splashtop is a no-go for tablets.”
The internet focus of the OS makes it an ideal choice for netbook users, as the platform’s rapid booting and streamlined setup is likely to make it far more battery-power-friendly than booting Windows. However, users of devices without physical keyboards may experience problems.
