New research shows iPad’s dominance in 2010

New research has revealed the true extent of Apple’s dominance of the tablet market in 2010, proclaiming that 93% of all tablet devices sold in Q3 were iPads. The figures – released by ABI Research – showed that 4.5 million tablet devices were shipped in Q3, of which a staggering 4.19 million were iPad devices.
However, ABI’s senior practice director, Jeff Orr does not expect such a monopoly to continue, as numerous challengers wait in the wings to release their own iPad competitors:
“Over time, Apple’s first-to-market iPad advantage will inevitably erode to some extent,” said Orr. “ABI Research has been tracking media tablets since December 2009, but future quarterly editions of this market data product will include market share tracking of all the major media tablet vendors.”
The impending release of so many competing tablets will undoubtedly have a negative impact on Apple’s market share, but Steve Job’s corporation will be looking to minimise this impact with the release of the iPad 2.
Apple are beginning to show signs of weakness in other areas also; figures released yesterday saw Apple’s iPhone smartphone tumble three places in the ‘most popular handset’ league table, from third to sixth.

Ipad 2. I’m not really a fan of ipad but that sounds great. I wonder what innovations will apple think of this time.
