BBC iPlayer app confirmed for Android tablets
Posted on February 9th, 2011 1 comment
Following on from the BBC’s confirmation that the iPlayer app will be available on the iPad; the iconic broadcasting company have announced that the app will be available on Android devices also.Yesterday, the BBC announced that the iPlayer app would be available on iPad tablets from February 10th onwards, eventually hitting the US in June.
Now, Android tablet users can get in on the act, provided they pay their license fee and have a tablet running Android 2.2 – Froyo – or higher.
Playback will only be available over WiFi connections although those accessing the app via a 3G connection will be able to browse the iPlayer catalogue. Android users will also need Flash 10.1 to stream content.
The recent announcement about the iPlayer app coming to the iPad has also fuelled speculation into the specifications of the iPad 2, after a tweet from the BBC’s Interactive Operations engineer, Geoff Marshall possibly let slip more than he had meant to;
“I think [the iPlayer app] will take advantage of the higher-res screen that iPad 2 has got,” Marshall tweeted, before adding: “HD content will look good.”
We are still waiting for Apple’s official line on this ‘higher-res screen’, up to now they had been assuring us that iPad 2 would offer the same resolution as its previous incarnation, but maybe the BBC know more than Apple are letting on.

You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I in finding this matter to be actually something which I feel I would by no means understand. It seems too complicated and extremely large for me. I am looking forward to your next put up, I will attempt to get the grasp of it!
