Android e-book reader launched

Educational tech company, Brainchild have launched the Kineo – an Android tablet marketed specifically as an e-reader.
 
The Kineo features an 800MHz, dual core processor, 256MB of RAM and 2GB of storage, as well as WiFi connectivity, a SD card slot and an HDMI output for streaming data through HD television screens.

The device runs Android 2.1 and – while obviously not representing the next-gen onslaught we are expecting any day now from Google’s Android devices – the Kineo is indicative of the wide-range of products popping up under the Android banner.

Brainchild president, Jeff Cameron, was quick to highlight the educational benefits of this kind of technology:

“Learning devices need to enhance instruction, not be a distraction.” He said. “With over 15 years of experience in developing handhelds and software for schools, we know how to make a tablet device suited to a teacher’s needs for individualised instruction.”

One of the key features of the Kineo is its security; it will only allow students to access websites that the teacher approves. This, Brainchild say, will help eliminate any distraction posed by the internet, as well as ensuring students browse safely.

The 7-inch Kineo tablet features an impressive 10-12 hour battery life, making it a reliable, as well as useful, addition to the classroom. The device expected to hit the shelves in March.
