Apple iPad 2 specs: No retina display resolution
Posted on January 31st, 2011 1 comment
A report by Concord Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed specifications for the upcoming iPad 2 – one of which is that the device will not feature the rumoured retina display resolution.
According to Kuo, the iPad 2 will be powered by a 1.2GHzCortex-A9 dual core processor, as well as a GPU using Imaginations SGX543 dual core technology and 512MB of RAM.
The report hinted that the iPad 2 will have dual cameras as expected, but that they will be made from similar components to the camera on the iPod touch, rather than the higher-quality iPhone 4 camera.
The report also crushed the increasingly unlikely rumour that the new iPad would feature retina display resolution – that is, the highest resolution perceptible by the human eye – instead stating that the iPad 2 will feature no change in resolution, retaining the 1024 x 768 pixel display of its predecessor.
It is also rumoured that the iPad 2 will be available in both CDMA and GSM versions, with the CDMA using a Qualcomm produced chip and the GSM version using an Infineon chip.
No mention is made in the report to a previous rumour about an SD card slot on the iPad 2. It appears that a leaked image apparently displaying an SD card slot was in fact a SIM card slot.

I was hoping for the iPad to get atleas 1gb RAM. The retina display is inefficient for a screen of that size, the resolution would have gone up to something like (roughly) 2048×1536 and would have made developing apps for such resolution a hell for developers.
But then again, the information I’m getting are all based upon rumors.. I just can’t wait for the iPad 2 to be officially announced by Apple.
