RIM co-chief executive, Jim Balsillie has been talking about RIM, BlackBerry, the PlayBook Tablet and how RIM aim to dominate 2011.

RIM’s BlackBerry smartphone has carved out a reputation as a reliable and versatile device, but the brand’s image has suffered in 2010 at the hands of trendier Apple and Android devices. The company will be hoping that a New Year onslaught on the tablet market will be enough to boost their profile.

The PlayBook is expected to play to RIM’s strengths – the corporate market – when it is initially released in 2011, thanks to its reliance on WiFi networks. However, other models aimed at the casual consumer are expected to follow, along with several new models of the company’s famous smartphone.

RIM co-chief executive, Jim Balsillie is excited about the coming year:
“I think we are laying the pieces here to sustain really exciting growth for a long, long, long time.” He said. “I feel great about where we are sitting for 2011.”

The PlayBook will experience stiff competition from some new devices arriving from competitors Apple and Samsung, and Balsillie acknowledges he needs to remain realistic, the co-CEO stating that he expects the raft of new smartphones to have the biggest impact.

Technology expert, Sascha Segan expects RIM to go for the jugular with the “cool vote” in 2011.
“One thing we have learned over the last five years is that consumers are fickle.” He said. “They will always jump ship if something cooler comes along.”

    • Don’t blame CEO, they want RIM win.

RIM has strange culture and self distruct political environment.

In RIM if a new hired person figure out major problem and introduce efficient approach, both manager and his buddy group member will proof their wrong approach works. just like someone point out driving a car is right way, pushing a car is wrong way, then both manager and his buddy group member will hate you, and proof that 3 person can also move the car by pushing it. cheating email will be sent to some vice president, saying like: see, the car moving, pushing a car is a natural part of the process, in order to deny new hired contribution of introducing skill of drive a car, they have to deny merit of driving a car.

It is very strange company culture and strange company political environment, it promote stealing and cheating skill. RIM’s management may be a typical instance in MBA course.

This culture deny or steal hardworking team members’ contribution/innovation, generate strange political environment, destroy RIM.

So don’t blame CEO, some of their VPs and VPs’ expert generate terrible culture and self destruct political environment.
