    6-core-nehalem

Rumor has it that Intel may be preparing 6-core Nehalem processors for launching later this year. The launch of these new processors is said to coincide with the launch of the big Lynnfield/P55 release scheduled for later this year. These new 6-core chips will be supported by the existing X58/LGA1366 motherboards but the motherboards will need a BIOS update first, otherwise the new processors won’t work.

The Intel is set to discontinue the Core i7 processors later this year, so, these new processors will sit alongside the Core i7 975 processors. Intel is yet to come-up Brand this new product line of Six-Core Nehalem Processors but it certainly won’t be be put under the i7 brand. However, Intel is planning to keep the ‘Core’ part in the name of these new processors. No word about other specifications like core speed or cache has been revealed yet and neither is there a word about the Pricing.
