You didn’t know this would happen, did you? A fully functional netbook that runs on, uhmm, AA sized batteries. Norhtec’s Gecko EduBook runs on AA sized batteries, the same that are used on most Wall clocks. This new netbook costs $199 and has a 7-inch display having a resolution of 1024 x 600px. The Norhtex Gecko EduBook’s architecture is based on an Xcore86 system on a chip, offering a 1GHz processor and power consumption of just 1.2 watts, equating to four hours of battery life on eight NiMH AA batteries or six hours if Li-on cells.

It is possible to recycle used or refurbished laptop drives or use low-cost SD Flash. The netbook has an internal USB socket and 3 additional external USB sockets. The netbook can be packaged with GPRS, Edge, 3G, 3.5G, EDVO or other telecommunication modems. The Gecko EduBook has space for 2.5 inch hard and has an external SD socket incase you want to add an extra low cost boot or storage device. Other features include a Built-in stereo, Built-in 10/100Base-T Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 connector), D-Sub 15 Pin VGA output port and an Integrated Graphics Chip. The NorhTec is now accepting orders and will start Shipping in August.
