You don’t need to blow the student loan to grab a great laptop
Posted on October 6th, 2009 No commentsFreshers’ Weeks all around the country have pretty much ground to a halt now, so it’s time (reluctantly) to look towards your studies. If you’ve not blown your whole student loan on a week-long alcohol binge, you could consider grabbing yourself a great deal from a whole host of cheap laptops on the market at the moment.
Of course, the portability of laptops is what makes them so popular. Instead of working until the early hours in the Uni library, having a laptop can enable you to work anywhere – such as under the covers in bed!
First year students often purchase laptops because they plan on taking their computers to class with them and being able to do their studies anywhere on campus – and laptops are no longer an expensive luxury, with fantastic models available from as little as £200.

HP strike up student laptop deal
Posted on September 21st, 2009 1 commentAs thousands of freshers begin their higher education drinking spree, three things will be ranking high in their minds – cheap food, cheap drinks, and cheap laptops!
With this in mind, HP laptops have struck a deal with 3 to coincide with the new student year and offer the great unwashed mobile broadband laptop deals. What this means is that new 3 mobile broadband customers can purchase a CQ60 Compaq Presario Laptop at £80 off the suggested retail price or a Compaq Mini 110 Netbook at £40 off.
The offer is “open to all new mobile broadband customers” as well as students.

Samsung R519 laptop hits the shelves
Posted on September 18th, 2009 No commentsCheap laptops seem to be getting cheaper, which is truly great news for consumers in the global recession.
And for £380, this is emphasised with the excellent new Samsung R519 laptop which hit the shelves recently. Apple Macbook it ain’t, but it does provide an awful lot of laptop for a low price.
Unlike most laptop deals, however, it provides a much more usable screen and user interface, decent office performance and an optical drive. If you’re in the market for a bargain-basement new laptop, then the Samsung R519 is a very decent choice.

Dell unveil skinny Adamo laptop with under 1cm thickness
Posted on September 9th, 2009 1 commentThe growing penchant for skinny laptops shows no sign of slowing, with Dell announcing a new 9.99mm thin Adamo XPS (Xtreme Performance System) laptop this week.
Further information is scarce, other than the machines bulkiness or lack of it, as Dell choose to take the teaser PR campaign route like they did with the first Adamo notebook.
However, in comparison with the 19.3mm thick MacBook Air and Dell’s original Adamo, which weighed in at 16.5 mm thick, the new sub-10mm laptop has certainly whetted our appetite. As ever on Laptopshop, we’ll have Adamo laptop deals as soon as they go on sale.

Despite Netbook growth surge, laptops are still the benchmark
Posted on September 2nd, 2009 No commentsResearch undertaken by analysis firm DisplaySearch revealed that netbook shipments grew an impressive 40 per cent compared to the same quarter last year, almost doubling the 22 per cent for laptop sales. These figures equate to 30 million globally.

However, netbooks still lag behind with regards to overall sales, with laptops accounting for 77.8 per cent of the overall market and netbooks claiming the latter 22.2 per cent. Even though the gap is still quite large, figures show that during the second quarter of 2008, netbooks held just 5.6 per cent of the overall market, proving their growth is fast and continual.
And not everyone is enthralled by the new world of netbooks. A separate survey conducted by industry watcher Spiceworks has found that only 13 per cent of small to medium sized businesses are buying netbooks for their staff compared to the 56 per cent ready to invest in laptop deals.
